John has extensive experience in the telephony, Internet, and communications industries. He has broad experience in developing and deploying new communications technologies, as well as significant international business experience.
He served at the University of the Virgin Islands as Executive Director of Information Technology, where he was responsible for all information technology employed by the university. During his tenure at UVI, he designed and installed a 6 GHz., 16 T-1 inter-island digital microwave system.John ran the billing operation at St. Thomas/San Juan Telephone Co.. He set up the servers, CISCO Routers and the billing system at Internet Communications of America, Inc., an Internet service provider.
He served as CEO and Board Member at Transidyne General Corp., a leading manufacturer of computer-controlled medical instruments. John also served as founder, CEO and Board Member of Digital Computer Controls, Inc., specializing in the design and manufacture of small computer systems. He was founder, CEO and Board Member of Corporation S, a nation-wide computer service bureau.
Before that, he spent 15 years at International Telephone & Telegraph, where he was responsible for the winning design of a billion dollar U.S. Air Force contract for a worldwide computer system and data network. He gained experience in the international communications market there, as director of telecommunication labs in London, Paris, and Madrid.
John spent 5 years at Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Labs doing design, construction, and maintenance of one of the first computers in the country, the first computer-to-computer over telephone lines, the first core memory, and the first transistor computer.
John spent 5 years in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, doing construction, maintenance and operation of radio relay sites. He is an avid amateur radio enthusiast, and was an instructor of Radar/Radio/Computer repair at the Signal School in Germany. John helped set up Virgin Islands Freenet, COBEX, and VIAccess.
John holds BSEE, MSEE, & EE in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
